| Photo and caption by: The Panama Canal Company - Graphics Branch United States Navy ships the size of the Aircraft Carries Constellation cannot transit the Panama Canal. Its 250 foot flight deck is much too wide to fit in the 110 foot wide Locks chambers. There is also a steadily increasing number of commercial ships that find the size of the Locks either makes it impossible for them to transit at all or seriously restricts their draft capacity.
