The Panama Railroad.
Photo and caption by: The Panama Canal Company - Graphics Branch
Called the shortest, fastest, cheapest and wildest transcontinental railway in the world, a ride on the Panama Railroad takes about an hour to cross the 50-mile stretch of wide gauge track. This historic railway, first link across the isthmus, still offers one of the most efficient and picturesque means of going from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Shown here, with Pedro Miguel Locks in the background, the train nears the Pacific terminus.
