Ship passing Contractors Hill.

Gaillard Cut, named after the Engineer in charge of its excavation, is one of the three major construction feats that made the Panama Canal possible. Over 168 million cubic yards of earth and rock were removed in its construction. The ship in transit is being assisted by a tug, a common occurrence with large commercial ships, as it passes between Gold Hill and Contractors Hill.
